About the session

Death has a 100% participation rate, with no chance of escape. But in your final moments when you take pause and look back on your life, what will you see? How might you be remembered, and what will you leave behind after you’re gone?

Legacy is the manifestation of our identity, values and history, passed through generations across time and space. Thoughts of legacy can offer a limited form of immortality and give purpose to our existence. It can make us feel good about contributing to the future, and help us come to terms with our inevitable death.

In this expressive arts workshop, we’ll use the concept of “legacy” to explore what’s meaningful in life, and what makes for a good death. Through a range of fun writing and drawing activities, we’ll explore the things that matter most (and least), and how we might each use our short time on Earth to make a difference. Our actions are our footprints, and thinking deeply about our legacy forces us to ask ourselves, “Are we being good citizens, and are we being good ancestors?”

About Jules Jay

She holds a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing, a Bachelor of Psychological Science, and a Master of Applied Positive Psychology. Her current interest is in using the topic of legacy as both a means to promote conversations about death and dying, and a prompt for encouraging people to live more pro-socially and sustainably.
