THE BASE
Centre ring: Chain 5 stitches. Slip stitch into first chain to form a small circle.
R1: Chain 2 (counts as 1st treble crochet). Make 7 double crochet into centre of the circle. Join with slip stitch to the top of chain 2. (You should now have 8 stitches in this round.)
R2: Chain 2 (counts as first treble crochet). Treble crochet into top of chain 2 from previous round. Make 2 treble crochet into each subsequent stitch. Slip stitch to the top of chain 2. (You should have a total of 16 stitches in this round.)
R3: Repeat round 3 (for a total of 32 stitches).
THE SIDES
This next row continues on from the base, and works upward to form the sides of the cosy.
R4: Continuing up from the base, chain 2 (counts as first treble crochet). Treble crochet into the back of each stitch. Join with a slip stitch to top of chain 2. (32 stitches) NOTE: working into the back of each stitch in this round isn’t compulsory, but will make a neater base, with a decorative line.
R5: Chain 2 (counts as first treble crochet). Treble crochet into each stitch. Join with a slip stitch to top of chain 2 (32 stitches).
Subsequent rows: Repeat row 5 till desired height is reached. (32 stitches)
Final row: Chain 1, then single crochet into each stitch to form a neat top row. Join with a slip stitch to top of chain 1. Cast off and thread any stray ends into the cosy to hide them.
