Food Swap and Share
10.30 till 11.30am, every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month
Venue: Edible Hub community garden
Hurstbridge Community Hub, 50 Graysharps Rd, Hurstbridge
Join us at the food swap each month for a get-together centred on giving, swapping, and sharing homegrown food and garden-related items with others in the community. The aim of the food share is to increase community access to healthy homegrown food, build strong local relationships, and reduce the amount of food-related waste and materials going to compost and landfill. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. The swap is usually held in the beautiful setting of the Edible Hub community garden, but over winter we retreat indoors, to the Lounge of the Hurstbridge Hub.
As well as lots of locally homegrown food, a couple of our generous regulars bring along loads of fruit and veg from SecondBite in Diamond Creek, and free Boomerangs Bags are always on offer to carry home your spoils. Our resident sharpener, John Doyle, is also there each week offering a free sharpening service for all things blunt. Bring along your knives, secateurs, scissors or shears and John will sharpen them for you while you wait.
Everyone in the community is welcome to come along, and you don’t have to be a grower to participate. There’s always plenty to share. At the end of each swap, leftover food is placed on the Food is Free table under the verandah of the Hub, for everyone in the community to access.
