Hurstbridge Library of Stuff

A project by the Hurstbridge Community Shed Inc.

The Hurstbridge Library of Stuff is a community lending library which was founded by SHIFT and is now run by the Hurstbridge Community Shed. It allows community members to borrow a wide variety of practical and interesting items for a small annual fee; including power tools, sports equipment, camping gear, art supplies, toys, household appliances and more.

Through the library, community members can borrow everything from a bread maker or jigsaw puzzle, to a tent, drill or guitar – for less than a fraction of what it would cost to buy or hire these items elsewhere.

The aim of the new Library of Stuff is to reduce the financial and geographical barriers that restrict people’s access to goods and experiences. It also reduces local waste and consumption practices, and fosters community engagement.

Membership

We offer an annual membership for just $60. Membership fees help us cover the cost of insurance, storage, cataloguing software, buying new items, and repairing and servicing old ones.

Note: some loan items use consumable or disposable parts that may require a small fee. For instance, vacuum bags, bubble mixture, sanding pads etc. These will be clearly listed on each item’s description page in our inventory.
